The Rams lost 58-44 to Lone Star Conference No. 1 Tarleton State Saturday, Feb. 26. It was the last regular-season game of the season and the Rams (11-15) (7-7) needed a win to keep their LSC Tournament dreams alive on senior night.

"It's disappointing, especially for our seniors," Head Coach Fred Rike said. "Unless you win a national championship, it's always tough."

Senior guard Trey Mays said he was upset the loss kept the team out of the postseason. Mays tallied five points and five rebounds.

The first half featured five lead changes as both teams fought to keep the game close. Tarleton pulled ahead towards the end of the half after they hit a last-minute bucket to take a 29-24 lead into the break.

Senior guard Rich Thomas had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Rams. Senior guard Steven Moore contributed 12 points and five rebounds.

Tarleton (22-4) (13-1) did most of the scoring early in the second half after their lead grew to 42-28 with 10:38 left in the game. The Rams did not make a field goal until almost 13 minutes into the second half.

Coach Rike said Tarleton's defense played great, which kept the Ram's offense off-balanced.

"They beat us a lot in the paint," Rike said. "We had a couple guys in foul trouble… and we gave them a lot of second chance shots."

The seniors on the team combined for 33 of the team's 44 points in what ended up being their last collegiate game.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet," Mays said. "But I'm at peace with the way we came together this year. We stuck together as a family and I'm proud of my teammates. That's all I can ask for."

From a coach's standpoint, the Rams go right in to recruitment, Rike said.

"We don't rebuild, we reload," Rike said.
