The Rams defeated Texas A&M Kingsville 64-62 Feb. 2 to bring them to 4-1 in their last five games.

"It was a gutsy win by my guys," Head Coach Fred Rike said. "I thought we kept fighting. Once we tied the game I thought we were going to bring it to the house."

Seniors forward Rich Thomas and guard Steven Moore both scored 18 points to lead the team.

The Rams (10-11) (6-3) went in to an early 6-0 hole but fought back take a 17-16 lead with 7:42 left in the half. After they fell behind again, freshman guard Andre Adams hit a three pointer to put the Rams back in the driver seat, up 29-28 at the break.

Coach Rike said Adams' shot brought the momentum back to the Rams.

"He is very capable [of making those shots]," Rike said. "He's a good scorer and I thought he had a good game tonight."

Adams led the team with four assists and added seven points in the win. Junior forward LaDonn Huckaby contributed eight rebounds and 14 points to the Rams' effort.

Kingsville (7-14) (2-7) built an eight point advantage five minutes deep in the second half. The Rams chipped away at the lead until senior guard Steven Moore sunk a basket that left his defender on the floor to tie the game at 45 with 7:23 remaining. After Thomas hit a three-pointer to put the Rams ahead 55-49 with three minutes left, the win was sealed.

Saturday Feb. 12 the Rams take on WTAMU in Canyon, Texas.

"We have a rough schedule coming up," Rike said. "[Playing] at West Texas A&M is going to be a very tough game and then we have Eastern New Mexico here next week. It's the home stretch."
