The Angelo State Rambelles traveled to Commerce this past Sunday, March 28th and took on the Texas A&M - Commerce Lions for a doubleheader. They lost the first game 3-2, but won the second 3-0.
The Rambelles came to Commerce ready to play aggressive and with hustle. Ashlyn Lerma took advantage of a sleepy Lions infield and stole second base at the top of the first inning. She scored shortly after when Courtney Barnhill hit a double down the right side of the field. The Lions spent the rest of the game chipping away at the Rambelles lead, and by the seventh inning, led 2-1. Ashton Dirner tied the game up off of a Barnhill single at the top of the seventh, but ultimately the Lions came away with the victory, scoring in the bottom of the seventh to win 3-2.
In the second game, Genesis Armendariz pitched for the Rambelles, allowing only two hits and striking out three batters. The Rambelles defense was dominant, keeping the Lions off the scorecard completely. Hatty Shope hit her first home run of the season, sending Keilei Garcia home to give the Rambelles a 2-0 lead. At the top of the sixth inning, Maleya Burns scored the Rambelle’s last run. The game ended 3-0.
Next week, the Rambelles will host Midwestern State on April 9, and then Texas Women’s on April 11. Both days will be doubleheaders, giving the Rambelles a chance to move further up the rankings.
