ASU alumnus and former UCPC Vice President of Marketing and communications & Event coordinator Alex Bryant became a member of For(bes) The Culture on Jan. 25.

According to the For(bes) The Culture’s website, the mission of For(bes) The Culture is to create pathways for professionals of color, break down barriers and directly impact the culture globally to connect, collaborate, and change by fostering professional development, social consciousness and civic engagement. In continuation of helping these professionals, they participate in community service projects, social and cultural outings, personal and professional workshops. Along with seminars, mentoring, tutoring, and networking.

“Even though I’m the first to receive this, I’m definitely going to make sure i’m not the last to be considered for it,” Bryant said.

Bryant earned a degree in graphic design at ASU in 2014 and proceeded working different jobs in the media field until he started working with The Trevor Romain Company in 2019. While at ASU, Bryant was a part of several student organizations on campus including UCPC, Kappa Pi International Art fraternity, African Student Association, Snap Happy Photography Club, Orientation leaders, and The Graphic Design Club, along with SIGGRAPH, an organization devoted to programs and services for individuals interested in computer graphics.

“Angelo State University really did help me find my career,” Bryant said, “I came in as a transfer student and the teachers there were really top-notch. They really take care of their students and find a way to help put them find their way into the industry.”

According to Bryant, Edwin Cuenco, an ASU graphic design professor, played a major role in Bryant’s success.

“Cuenco pushed me to my limits and truly saw the potential I had,” Bryant said.

According to Bryant, although he was a transfer student to ASU, the diversity across the campus attracted him to attend ASU along with the “at home” feel Angelo State offers to its students.

After graduating from ASU in 2014, Bryant moved to California and began his career serving as an intern or working  for several well known televised entertainment outlets such as Entertainment Tonight, Bravo, NBC Universal, CBS Television Distribution, The Insider, and OWN. Until reaching his current position of a Media Relations Director for The Trevor Romain Company.

The Trevor Romain Company is a publishing organization that has been around since 2007. According to their website, the company seeks to promote academic achievement, instill positive growth and empower self-confidence in all students through social and emotional learning. The company has children's books and animated series touching on topics that relate to social and emotional issues.

For(bes) The Culture noticed Bryant from his work with SIGGRAPH and The Trevor Romain Company. Bryant currently serves as a contributor for SIGGRAPH, Which is a computer graphic design organization. Bryant said working with both SIGGRAPH and The Trevor Romain Company gives him the opportunity to work with individuals of his local community, which is something that For(bes) The Culture focuses on for its members.

Bryant said he wishes for students of color to go out and go for their highest aspirations because there's always opportunity out there.

“We are all just ordinary people experiencing this thing called life,” Bryant added. “I highly encourage you to find a community that connects to your values and interests.”
