Angelo State University on Nov. 18 has partnered with the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce to encourage local areas and businesses to fly ASU flags in recognition of a successful conclusion of the Fall 2020 semester.
Over 20 flags have been picked up by businesses as of Wednesday.
The SACC President and CEO, Walt Koenig, encourages all local businesses to support Angelo State University.
“Each student at Angelo State provides a $57,000 economic impact to the city of San Angelo,” Koenig said. “Angelo State is an economic and cultural force that makes our community great!”
ASU President Ronnie Hawkins Jr. knew that as a facility, ASU had to do everything in its power to get students back on campus in order to have the full college experience.
“Our faculty and staff have done an outstanding job providing a safe learning environment, and I’m incredibly proud of how our students have bought into our safety protocols,” Hawkins said. “The entire Ram Family is to be congratulated for their contributions to this successful semester, and I hope the businesses in our San Angelo and Concho Valley family will help us celebrate by flying their ASU flags.”
One of the people who first started to participate, is the owner of Randy's Bike & Run Shop, Randy Rangel. He says his reasoning for participating is because he encourages local support.
“I’m originally from San Angelo, and went to Abilene Christian University. However, my daughter goes to ASU, and this morning I heard on the radio that they were giving out flags, and I told her to go pick one up for me today,” Rangel said. “I have always been a big fan of buying local and being local; I like supporting the local colleges, businesses and bases. Everybody helps everybody here.”
The flag pick up locations and hours are:
· San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, 418 W. Ave. B: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
· ASU LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center, 1620 University Ave.: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
