Local businesses in San Angelo are doing their best to adapt to uncertain times. Nevertheless Chef Ronnie Cajas II has opened a new restaurant in August called Street Eats.

On Oct 7, Street Eats, located at 1827 W Avenue N, began offering ASU and Howard students two tacos and a drink for $7 after showing a valid student ID.

Cajas II became a certified chef after traveling worldwide for 10 years in the U.S Army. While in the Army, Cajas II tried many different flavors and dishes that influenced much of the menu items today.

“I am not a traditional taco shop, I am not a traditional burger shop,” Cajas II said. “This is what America is, a giant melting pot”

Street Eats wants to change the traditional street food in San Angelo. The menu is not inspired by a specific region, as its dishes are a fusion from everywhere.

According to Cajas II, that is how they came up with the name Street Eats.

“When I go to a city, I like to eat food truck food from that area, every region has their own style of what they cook,” Cajas II said. “I want the streets from all over so I’m gonna call it Street Eats because it's not from a specific region.”

Repeat customer Randy Wilson ate the Barrio Birria tacos for the first time and said the minute he took his bite, it was like nothing else he has ever had.

Every Tuesday for the rest of October, Street Eats will donate 10% of their Kaotic Creations box sales to the Oncology Angelo Fund at Shannon Medical Center.

“I came from the barrios here, so I understand what it is like to have to choose between bills and meals,” Cajas II said. “So, my main goal is to help our community. This is isn’t about making a buck, this is a passion”

Street Eats will hold their official grand opening celebration on Oct 24.
