The Rams are set to play their first game of the season Saturday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. against the Buffs of West Texas A&M in LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field in San Angelo, Texas.

“We’ve been preparing for a while now with high energy at practice,” said Micah Flowers, a junior linebacker for the Rams. “We know that [West Texas A&M] is going to put up a fight, but we’re ready to be back on the field.”

As fans hope ASU is able to duplicate the success of the 2019 campaign, where they held an 8-3 record, which ranked the team for third in the LSC. The Rams will be coming into the shortened 2020 season led by the defensive side of the ball where they are returning five starters from the 2019 all-conference teams, including safety Leddy French II and defensive tackle G’Kari McCoy, who both were 1st Team All-LSC honorees.

While the defense will look familiar to fans, the offense is a whole new story. While the Rams' offense will have several familiar faces at the receiver positions, the backfield will have a brand new look as there are still question marks at the quarterback and running back positions. The players who will start for ASU on Saturday have not been announced yet.

LeGrand Stadium has sold out the 50% capacity for Saturday’s matchup as well as the Aaron Watson concert expected to begin following the game. ASU has set guidelines in order to ensure safety for the fans, coaches and players at the game. Starting off, everyone will be required to socially distance themselves per CDC guidelines and all attendees must wear a mask at all times while at the game. The gates will open at 4:30 p.m., and prior to entering, all attendees must complete a wellness screening. Once fans enter the stadium, they will not be allowed back into the stadium if they leave at any point during the game.

“I’m glad that [ASU] is taking the extra step to ensure our safety,” Flowers said.

For those unable to be in attendance for the game on Saturday, you will be able to watch it at this link and follow the game via StatCast at this link.
