With all of the coronavirus craziness, the current political climate and the surprise announcement of the fall 2020 football season, there’s been one huge question looming over the student body’s mind: where is the best place to potty on campus?

Don’t worry, Rams and Rambelles, a team of self-proclaimed experts, who have each individually and sometimes collectively been using restrooms for nearly two decades, sought out the answer. After evaluating each restroom’s cleanliness, age, space, traffic and stall gaps on campus, we have created the definitive ranking of the top five bathrooms on ASU’s campus in the 2020-2021 school year.

In fifth place, we have the CAF. This fine eatery is home to an even finer bathroom. Large newly renovated bathrooms flank either side of the dining area and narrow stall gaps make for a comfortable experience. Though the traffic is a little higher than you might typically enjoy, occupants can still go in privacy during non-meal times. Complete with automatic hand dryers, this is truly a top-tier toilet.

Fourth place belongs to the Mathematics-Computer Science Building. The lack of automatic fixtures cost this space a few points, but the quiet building hosts some of the biggest bathrooms on campus. The MCS bathrooms are huge and divided into two parts with sinks in one area and toilets in the other, which adds to the privacy of the space. The stall gaps are quite average; a person using the restroom could slide an iPhone through, but not if it’s in an Otterbox or other bulky cases. Ultimately, it’s a pleasant place to potty.

Third place was a tough choice, but it came down to space in the end. Ultimately, we decided on the newly constructed Stephens Chapel’s private bathrooms for the bronze medal. These facilities have seen very little usage and are perfectly clean fixtures in a building that most people don’t even know they can go into makes this bathroom a high-ranking contender in almost every category. The only area it lacked was space, as they are just a bit too small to be totally comfortable.

In second place, barely beating out the chapel, is the Health & Human Services Building. The HHS boasts a pair of huge bathrooms on each floor, with thin stall gaps and low traffic. Though not quite as new as the chapel, these bathrooms are very well maintained by the health science students, faculty and staff who populate the building. To top it all off, automatic sinks mean these bathrooms are completely COVID-19 friendly. Nothing less than excellence from the nursing building!

Dishonorable Mentions

Regrettably, many facilities that were shared in the making of this list were discussed for all the wrong reasons. One that strikes close to home is the men’s bathroom on the 3rd floor of the Porter Henderson Library closest to the stairwell. Unfortunately, the stall in this bathroom is missing a lock, preventing the occupant from keeping the stall door closed. Other notorious restrooms are the ones located in the Academic Building, which features possibly the most average bathrooms on campus and based on the evaluation criteria, it managed to land exactly in the middle of almost every category.

Honorable Mentions

Before announcing the first place bathroom, there are a couple of honorable mentions that deserve recognition. A campus employee who would like to remain anonymous shared that the Hardeman Building’s men’s room is a surprisingly quiet place to go because the majority of the staff in the building are female. Another informant said to use the small bathrooms on the right side of the entrance to the auditorium in the Mayer Administration Building. Many people do not even know they are there. After learning this article was being written, a Twitter user messaged the Ram Page to share their opinion that the best bathrooms on campus are on the second floor of the Houston Harte University Center, close to the West Texas Collection.

Finally, in first place, the best bathrooms at ASU are the bathrooms in the Hunter Strain Engineering Lab. This small building is one of the newest on campus, and houses surprisingly large bathrooms with next to no traffic because the only real reason to be there is if you’re in an engineering class. It even has small stall gaps so no one can see you go! Sitting right across from the Rassman Building, this is the perfect place for any business majors, mathematics majors, computer science majors, physics majors, criminal justice majors and more! All of this added up to the perfect combination to earn the gold medal in the rank of the restrooms.
