Adam McInturff explains the chart on the white board. McInturff is the Assistant Vice President of Marketing for Time Clock Plus.

Adam McInturff graduated from Central High School in December 2002 and immediately began attending ASU in January of 2003.

"When I started going to ASU, I was going to get a business degree with the option in Management Information Systems because that’s where the money was. A semester into that I realized very quickly that that’s not what I wanted to do. So I talked to my dad, who also graduated from ASU; he was going to be a coach, but he went into insurance and eventually went into investments. He said, ‘If you don’t know what you want to do just do what you like, what makes you happy.’ So I switched to an English degree with a government minor."

McInturff says he benefitted from the personal interest other students and professors took in his success.

"There’s a vested interest in others that seems to be a part of the culture at ASU. I look back at my business math professor who sat after class with me so I could pass. I think of some of my English professors that were probably the most impactful, but the hardest. Having those experiences, especially now that I’m in a position of management ,has been a cool thing to look back on. I’ve actually applied something I got from school because someone took time for me."

Now, McInturff works for Time Clock Plus, a local company.

"I started with Time Clock Plus in January of 2009. I was looking for something I could create a career path out of. I started as a sales rep selling upgrades."

McInturff holds a leadership role at the company now.

"This position is kind of new to me- I’m the Assistant Vice President of marketing. I wouldn’t say that it’s any one particular thing I pursued to get here, just whatever task I was given or saw needed done I did everything I could do to get it done"

This position includes managing the multimedia and business development teams, as well as overviewing the marketing content.

"I have the opportunity to manage those teams and be involved in all of that stuff. What’s cool is being able to invest in the people on those teams and be a part of their success. There’s a lot of moving parts, and I owe a lot of what I know from that team."

Aside from his career, McInturff has also acquired a family after graduating from ASU.

"My wife graduated from ASU. We met in eighth grade at Glenn Junior High. We pretty much became best friends. It took me until my junior year at ASU for her to go out with me. We ended up having three boys, five, three and one year old that are very much a handful. The oldest is the biggest Beatles fan you’ve ever met. They are also big ASU fans. They like to go to ASU events, and they love Roscoe. I have a feeling we have some future ASU graduates."

McInturff had two points for college students: hard work and enjoying their time at ASU.

"Someone asked me the other day what the number one thing I looked for in a candidate was. I said no matter what the position is, I look for grit. Do they have the mental toughness and can put in the hard work to get the job done no matter what," McInturff said.

"Some advice would be to not get so tied up in the destination. It’s kind of cliché, but enjoy the experience. Follow your gut; follow your heart. Don’t let anybody else steer you away from what you want to accomplish."
