After growing up in San Angelo and graduating from Central High School in December of 2003, alumna Ashley Gould began attending ASU in January of 2004.

"I chose ASU because I like my hometown, and I got a Carr Scholarship," Gould said.

Gould has many fond memories of her time on campus.

"I remember football, and I remember having really good professors. They knew us by name; we were important to them. I really appreciate that aspect of ASU. And then some lifelong friendships, that’s one of my favorite things I got out of ASU."

After obtaining a Kinesiology degree with a minor in Math in 2007, Gould began her career as a coach and teacher.

"I stared out at Central, just as an assistant coach under Coach Bozarth who was my coach, I was there for five years. Then Wall decided they were going to start a volleyball program. I applied and got to start the volleyball program there. Then almost two years ago, after four years at Wall, this job opened up. It was a good opportunity to come back to S.A.I.S.D. Since I had gone to school here, this is really where I wanted to pour into kids."

Now, Gould is the Assistant Athletic Coordinator at Lakeview High School. This includes helping her superior with running the athletic program, teaching three math classes, and also acting as the head volleyball coach.

"This year, I’m the Assistant Athletic Coordinator at Lakeview. I normally start off the day with freshman athletics or go to the junior highs or take care of some paper work. Then I teach three math classes and go back to athletics for the afternoon," Gould said.

"My favorite part is that no day is ever the same, and I really enjoy when in the classroom or on the court, it clicks with a kid and you see that spark. That’s why we do it- when you get to make an impact. That’s why most coaches and teachers go into this career," Gould said.

Gould feels ASU prepared her well for her career.

"I think that because ASU is a smaller school atmosphere, we got some really good one-on-one mentorship. What ASU does is they provide with an education and skills, but they also continue to back you. The education I got there is top notch."

Gould is actually in the process of continuing her education at ASU in pursuit of a master’s degree.

"I started back at ASU fall of 2016. I’m getting my master’s in education administration. It’s kind of something that’s always been in the back of my head. I take about 6 hours every semester. I should be done around 2019."

Gould contributes her desire to attend ASU again to an influential professor. "I played around with the idea for several years. Dr. Kieth is the reason I am getting my master’s. I had her in one of my first kinesiology classes. She kind of took me under her wing and she’s pushed me to continue my education."

With this, Gould plans to obtain a position in administration.

"Right now, my plan is to someday be an elementary principle; I would like to be in an administrative position at some point."

Gould remains thankful for her time at ASU and the support that she has received from the faculty and staff.

"I would say that I’m just grateful that my path led me to ASU. I’m grateful for all of the support ASU is able to offer and the things that they do for us at ASU. My heart always leads me back to ASU. "
