Trenadey Scott, sophomore, keeps the ball until a clear shot opens. Scott took nine shots against UT Permian Basin and made three, for a total of six points on the season.
The ASU Belles shut out UT Permian Basin 4-0 Oct. 18; sophomore earns first career hat trick.
This win is the Belles third straight shut-out, putting them 12-2-1 on the season and 7-1-1 in the Lone Star Conference play.
Sophomore forward Trenadey Scott got her first hat trick (scoring three times in one game from a single player) of her career and ASU’s latest since 2015. She scored twice in the first half and twice in the second.
"It feels really good and I’m glad to have gotten the hat trick but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates," Scott said. "They did a good job winning balls and keeping possession and just keeping the energy up throughout the game."
Junior middle fielder Analise Watson scored the first goal just two minutes into the game with an assist from junior Megan Allen; it was her fourth assist of the season putting her in first place on the team.
"Coach talked to us about being better on corners and getting more results from that and I think my goal was a good start," Watson said. "I haven’t had a goal from a corner kick and it made me feel really good."
Head Soccer Coach Travis Mccorkle said he was pleased with getting another shutout.
"That’s obviously something that’s been really important for us that we’ve been trying to improve on so to see that was really nice," Mccorkle said. "We had a lot of players get forward and create some chances as well did a pretty good job of finishing."
Mccorkle said the first 25 minutes were great but the team needs to improve on the second half of games.
"Overall I’m pleased with where we’re at," Mccorkle said. "I’m pleased to see the girls respond well after kind of getting a big target put on their back today."
Mccorkle said the thing he liked about the game was seeing the team step up in competing for 50/50 balls towards the end of the game.
"I was really encouraged by that so hopefully we’ll have that and bring that intensity with us on Sunday," Mccorkle said.
The Belles will play No. 11 Midwestern State this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Field.
"Midwestern, they’re going to be a really tough team," Mccorkle said. "They got a lot of dangerous players and we’re going to have to fo well."
Scott said this win gives the team the momentum they need for Sundays match up.
