Belle soccer gained its second shutout on Oct. 1 against the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds.
Sophomore Trenadey Scott and junior Cassandra Moosburger scored in the first half, respectively, and junior Mackenzie Broderick in the second.
Head Soccer Coach Travis McCorkle said he was pleased to see Broderick get her first goal.
Broderick’s goal, 12 minutes into the second half, was her first at ASU.
“I’ve been in and out with injuries so finally getting one [goal] felt amazing,” Broderick said.
Broderick was injured at the beginning of the preseason.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sammy Cude had with three saves in the second half.
McCorkle said there was good pressure in the early part of the game.
“The mobility in the box I think kind of helped create those first two goals,” McCorkle said.
McCorkle said the team’s defense was good and their organization was better in Sunday’s game.
“In the first five to ten minutes we kind of struggled with how we should move in the back and once we figured that out, we really solved a lot of problems for ourselves,” McCorkle said.
McCorkle said he was overall pleased with the way the defense played on the field.
“We put a lot of different players in there today and they all contributed to that shut out including our goalkeeper and obviously the rest of the team,” McCorkle said.
Broderick said the team did well but not as good as they could have done.
“We always can do better but we got the shutout and that’s what we aimed for,” Broderick said.
However Broderick said they need to work on their passing and mobility.
“We need better passes, stronger passes, and we need to move more uptop,” Broderick said.
The Belles will be on the road next week to face Texas A&M Commerce on Oct.6.
“I think our team is doing very well and I think we can go pretty far if we keep up the work,” Broderick said.
