The Belle Soccer team won its home opener on Sunday Sept. 17 against Southwestern Oklahoma State University 4-2.

The win put the team 3-1-0 on the season.

A total of 19 shots in the game helped the Belle’s achieve their highest score of the season for a single game.

Two of the goals were from sophomore forward Trenadey Scott and one each from Cassandra Moosburger, junior forward, and Elizabeth Rodriguez, senior midfielder.

"I couldn’t have done it without the passes that were made to me," Scott said.

Head Coach Travis McCorkle said Scott did a great job of doing what she’s supposed to do.

"I don’t think it’s less than what we expect, and it’s not more than what we expect," Mccorkle said. "She’s doing her job just like our goalkeepers, defenders and everyone else."

McCorkle said the team is happy about Scott’s performance.

The score was tied 2-2 when Rodriguez and Scott scored and brought the team up to four points.

"I thought the girls have shown, not just in this game but other games, that we have some fighting spirit and can come back," McCorkle said.

McCorkle said he likes that the team has some fight to them.

"I think it will help us come back in games when we need it like today," Mccorkle said.

Mccorkle said the turning point that helped was when they decided to try and change thier formation and put more pressure on the other team.

"I thought that did kind of get them on their heels a little bit and towards the end of that period was when we scored the third goal," Mccorkle said.

Scott said their passing was good and their defense did very well.

"There’s always stuff to work on but overall I thought we did really well today," Scott said.

Mccorkle said the team does need to work on some defensive things.

"I think that we gave up a couple of goals and I think we can do better defensively so we’ll work on that again this next week," Mccorkle said.

Mccorkle and Scott said it helped their confidence being on their home turf.

"It’s always nice to have the 12th man in the stands yelling and cheering for us and encouraging the goal," Mccorkle said.

The team will begin their Lone Star Conference games on Wednesday Sep. 20 against Texas Permian Basin in Odessa at 7 p.m.

Scott said their win will give them a head up for the next game and keeps their momentum going.

Mccorkle said it’ll be nice for them to be able to stay at a hotel and not have to drive anywhere.

"Our next couple games are conference games so things will kind of elevate a little bit and we’ll have to do really well," Mccorkle said.
