Belle Volleyball started the season off strong with a 5-0 record.

The team kicked off the season at Kathleen Brasfield ASU Invitational Sept. 1-2 where they won all four matches in three sets.

"We came out tonight and played pretty steady," Chuck Waddington, head coach said. "I thought our setters did a good job at moving the ball around and not making us predictable. We didn’t have one kid carry the loads for us, but we had two or three that scored consistently for us."

The first match of the tournament was against Limestone College.

The Belles outscored the Saints by almost double each game.

"We started off really strong this morning and came out aggressive," Waddington said.

The next match against Colorado Christian was more even, but the Belles showed up and placed another mark in their win column.

Brianna Sotello, senior outside hitter, led the Belles with 22 kills between the matches that day, while Sundara Chinn, sophomore right side, followed with 19.

Meghan Parker, sophomore setter, had 48 total assists.

The next day the Belles were back on the court with Colorado Christian.

The first two sets were tight with scores of 25-23 both games.

The third set, however, was a smooth victory for the Belles with a 25-11 win.

The final match of the tournament was against New Mexico Highlands University.

The Belles easily won the first two games 25-14 and 25-18.

In the last game ASU built up a 16-7 lead before NMHU battled back with an 8-3 run.

The Cowgirls continued to add points until they were within one, 24-23.

Anna Graham, sophomore middle blocker, added another kill to her 13 for the day and secured the sweep for the Belles.

Wednesday, Sept. 6 the Belles travelled to Alamosa, CO to take on Adams State University.

The Belles pulled out another three game victory winning, 25-16, 25-18, and 30-28.

"This was a good start to our road trip," Waddington said. "Morgan (Seaton) was pretty effective in the middle for us, while Brianna (Sotello) was really terminal for us in the first two sets and then late with the final set on the line. Bailey (Drum) also had a nice day for us offensively. We really set the tone in the first two set with our blocking and that was nice to see."

ASU plays in Denver Sept. 8 where they will open the Colorado Premier Tournament with Florida Southern at noon, then take on Metropolitan State at 3:30 p.m.

The outcome of these two matches will determine which teams the Belles will face on Saturday.
