Shane Browing fires a strike. Browning had 58 strikeouts for the season.

Former Ram baseball players, Matt Shannon and Tyler Coolbaugh, were drafted into the MLB. Shannon was a 12th round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays and Coolbaugh went with the Baltimore Orioles.

"They were two guys that deserved it, I look forward to following their progress and hope they make the big leagues," Head coach Kevin Brooks said.

The Rams had an overall record of 43-15 last year and lost to Colorado Mesa in the regional tournament.

Brooks said last year they didn’t achieve their ultimate goal of winning the championship but said it was still a good year.

"It was the best record we ever had in school history," Brooks said. "We won the conference again for the third straight year and we got to host regionals for the first time so we did a lot of good things. It was positive but you always want more."

Junior player Shane Browning said he had mixed feelings about last season.

"We had a really good year we didn’t quite make up to the levels that we set; obviously the goal was to go to the world series. We came a little shy but we did a lot of good things within the season," Browning said.

Brooks said the players do a good job of not having to go back and rebuild.

"We just reload with different pieces and the guys that were the different pieces stepped up and continued to do what teams before them have been able to do," Brooks said.

Brooks said he hopes they achieved that again this year and will see if this group can do the same "... because that’s what builds a good program," Brooks said.

Browning said they are getting back to work already and trying to get all the new players on the same track as the old ones. And push to the world series.

"We got the talent," Brooks said. "I’ve seen some of the new guys and they’re pretty good, I think they can contribute."

Browning said he struggled with consistency last year and wants to work on that for this season.

"That’s the main thing I want to work on, mental toughness," Browning said.

Brooks said they try to work really hard and continue to get better.

"We attack each day as hard as we can and try to improve. When we play we’ll go try to win all we can," Brooks said.

Of course, Brooks said the goal again for this year is to win the national championship.

"I think that’s always the goal, we just want to be as good as we can be," Brooks said.
