Texas Forever

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a love for the great state of Texas that runs farther, deeper, and wider than the Rio Grande.

This state is special.

There is a pride that courses through the veins of a Texan that outsiders will never understand.

Some may say this pride is unfounded. Some may say this pride is annoying, over the top or too extreme.

Those people are wrong.

The love for their state that Texans possess is one than can only be explained through experience.

It’s the warmth you feel in a good salsa from a family owned Mexican restaurant.

It’s the refreshing feeling that washes over you from the first sip of sweet tea on a summer day.

It’s the excitement of a fourth quarter victory over your high school rival.

John Steinbeck put it best when he said, "Texas is a state of mind. Texas is an obsession. Above all, Texas is a nation in every sense of the word."

Recently, Hurricane Harvey has wreaked havoc along Texas’ southern coast.

Cities were torn apart, towns were left unrecognizable and floodwaters stole the lives of far too many people.

But Texas will not let Harvey win.

Texas will rebuild and come back better and stronger than ever before.

Pillars of the Texas economy like HEB, Buc-ee’s, and Whataburger came out in full force to help this great state and its people.

Communities across the state gathered supplies, money and donations to send to their fellow Texans.

Boat owners scoured the floodwaters looking for those who need rescue.

Ranchers rode their horses through chest deep waters to save other people’s livestock.

This place is special. It was special long before the hurricane hit and will continue to be special long after it is rebuilt.

The pride that Texans feel is deeper than a love; it is a purpose.
