Ram Rugby has once again emerged victorious at the Fourth Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament, defeating Doc’s Kids 56-44 in a 30-minute Championship game Monday, Sept. 4 at the ASU Lakehouse Facilities.

"This is the fourth year we’ve won it in a row," Tony Kisiday, senior, said, "We’re pretty used to it but we love it. It’s kind of setting up a dynasty."

Doc’s Kids took an early lead by several points until Ram Rugby closed the gap and spiked their way to victory.

"We don’t usually get down a lot so it’s very frustrating but we fought through it," Brian Signorelli, senior and President of the Ram Rugby Club, said. "We’ve actually won it for the past couple of years so it feels good winning it again."

Following Ram Rugby were Doc’s Kids and Ram Belle Rugby, placing second and third respectively.

Due to ants and wasps infesting one of the two available courts, the tournament was held on only one court.

"We didn’t want anybody to get hurt so we didn’t play on that one," Mary Beth Flippin, Area Coordinator at the Housing and Residential Programs, said.

With 24 teams playing on one court, the beginning of the championship was delayed by a few hours.

The tournament ended at 8 in the evening, three hours after its original end time.

The Mud Volleyball Tournament is an annual event that began in 2015 and is spearheaded by the ASU Housing and Residential Program.

Students can participate in the event regardless of their living arrangements.

"We like to have some kind of event that keeps students on campus in enjoying their time at ASU," Flippin said, "I wanted to do something that was fun and students enjoyed and so every year it’s growing, so I think it’s a tradition that students like. "
