Keke Chism, freshman, jumps for the ball to make a touchdown. This was Chrism’s first career catch as a Ram.

The Ram football team defeated McKendree University in their season opener on Aug. 31 and avenged their loss from last year’s game against the bearcats.

Senior quarterback Jake Faber said revenge is always sweet.

"It’s always good to come back and take it from them," Faber said.

The final score was 42-2, with two touchdowns from Faber and one from each Josh Stevens, Jonathan Thompson, Keke Chism and Tyrese Nathan.

"It’s senior season; I just gotta make it happen and do whatever it takes," Faber said.

According to Faber, the Rams are looking forward to coming out and showing everybody everything they have been working for.

Faber said the offensive line led the whole way and did a great job.

"The O-line contributed to a lot of our success tonight, I give them all the credit," Faber said. "We have been striving for improvement all spring and the hard work came through."

Faber said the defense a good performance.

"They were top of the conference last year and they’ll be top of the conference again," Faber said.

Junior defensive end Markus Jones had seven block-kicks last year and got one in Thursday’s game.

"He’s an incredible player, he’s fast off the ball," Faber said.

Faber said the difference between this year and last year is the team’s mentality.

"We’re staying focused, confident, and just striving for greatness," Faber said.

Head Coach Will Wagner said the defense did an unbelievable job.

"The main concept for them is to make everything spill to the edge. If we can get that we have some unbelievable linebackers and defensive backs that are exceptionally fast and run well to the ball," Wagner said.

Wagner said Faber is comfortable with what they are doing offensively and have great players protecting him.

Wagner said Faber isn’t known for running but it was good to see his capability.

"That’s just going to open up more things for our offense," Wagner said.

Wagner also said the offensive line had a good game.

"It was good to see the guys rotate in and not skip a beat."

Wagner said he was most thrilled with the players maintaining their effort and intensity for 60 minutes.

"In past years we started off hot and then kind of slowed down but we saw in the second half our kids really picked up and our tempo change," Wagner said.

The team will play on Saturday, September 9, against Northern Michigan University.

"We’re going to let our kids heal up and get a couple practices in before Northern Michigan gets here," Wagner said.
