Out of 16 teams, the ASU womens golf team finished fourth behind three nationally-ranked schools. The Dallas Baptist Classic was held on The Links at Waterchase in Arlington Tuesday, Sept. 30th.
"The team did really well," junior Raelyn Smith said. "We are going to build off this fourth place start."
This was the first tournament the golf team has played in since its inception.
"It is fun to be the first golf team at the school," head coach Jason Hase said. "We are starting traditions with this team. It is going to be a fun season."
Smith finished in first place overall shooting a score of 141 over two rounds. In the first round, Smith sunk five birdies and carried a score of 70.
Brooke Jackson came in second on the ASU team.
"We just need to work on the little things," Hase said. "Build on our short game, putting and chipping, while working on our individual efforts should make us more well-rounded."
ASU shot a combined 308 the first day and 320 the second round.
"The two upperclassmen are leading the team," Hase said. "The freshmen are willing to learn and it is good to see progress."
The team consists of women all over Texas, from Odessa to Dallas.
"It is cool to set the bar for golf here at ASU. Hopefully we will set it high," Smith said. "But look for better things to come. We will be improving."
The Rambelles will be traveling to Edmund Oklahoma to play in the Central Oklahoma Invitational on Monday.
