With class starting up and with the entire campus going each and every way, there is one thing we all have in common: computers.
And I am willing to bet that every single one of those computers is hooked up to the internet. Ah the internet, what a wonderful and great invention it is. The world's knowledge at your fingertips.
But with this pro comes the con, and that con is the computer virus. Sure there are plenty of programs that can protect you, but none of them are perfect. Allow me to enlighten everyone today on a certain program that was recommended to me.
The name is NOD32. This program really is everything you would ever want in anti-virus protection. It is always running in the background and updates itself EVERYDAY. Other programs give you updates every few weeks, or even once a month. There is no other product on the market today that can equal this type of power.
Now I'm not saying that this is foolproof. The one and only thing that you truly have to monitor is yourself. Don't open any unknown e-mail attachments or go to any unknown Web sites. And certainly, don't download anything you haven't fully researched. Because the first step to saving you computer is saving yourself. So, when you are downloading a file, you might want the confidence that this particular file won't destroy your computer. Just go to http://www.eset.com/ and download it straight from the company. The pricing is $39.99 for one year and $58.99 for two. You can also try it free for 30 days.
NOD32's two closest competitors pale in comparison in their pricing stance. Norton (www.symantec.com) is $39 for one year or $74 for two and McAfee (http://www.mcafee.com/us/) only provides you with a choice of one year for $39. Neither of these will allow you a trial version to see if you like it.
If I still haven't convinced you, allow me to make this comparison. Other programs are armed with sharp sticks. NOD32 is armed with anti-personal hand grenades, bazookas, machine guns, lasers, nukes, heavy rocks and Kenny G music -a deadly combination.

Another good program, which is also free, is AVG by Grisoft. It was recommended to me by a PC tech when I had to get my PC reformatted due to a virus that Norton failed to catch. (Continued…)
