Making mistakes matter

Students can pay tickets with toys

Students can now repay a parking ticket by bringing a toy of equal or greater value than the ticket to the University Police before Dec. 7. "Since we have never done this before, the department is not too sure on the participation," Lieutenant Marc West said.

Excitement builds for Maroon 5

The anticipation has been building since the University Center Program Council announced Maroon 5 would be performing at the Junell Center on Nov. 21. Tickets have been selling rapidly since they were made available to students at the beginning of the semester.

Campus is in for a turkey treat

Food Services will provide Thanksgiving dinner in the main cafeteria Nov. 24 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. for students who remain on campus during the break. Students on the meal plan can swipe their card; those not on a meal plan must pay $6.50. "I think it's great that ASU provides a dinner for the students who are not able to go home and celebrate Thanksgiving with their families," said senior Inamoni Mual from the Netherlands.

Senate reaches high member mark

The Student Senate reached its largest member turnout of the year when the 28th member was sworn in at the Nov. 9 meeting. "I hope we reach a broader spectrum of students to become a louder and more diverse voice for ASU students," Student Body Vice President Stephanie Williams said.

Fun run celebrates Thanksgiving season

ASUFit, ASU's fitness and wellness program, will conduct the Turkey Trot 2009 fun run and walk 10 a.m. Saturday beginning on the mall in front of the Houston Harte University Center. The event will feature a three mile run and a 1.5 mile fitness walk as well as a one mile run for children ten and younger.

San Angelo's quality of life on rise

Inhabitants of San Angelo experienced an increase in quality of life last year, according to the 2009 San Angelo Social Health Index and Social Capital Index, a study compiled by ASU's Community Development Initiatives group. The Social Health Index, which uses a 100-point rating system based on 18 social health indicators, rated San Angelo at 56 in 2008 compared to 52 in 2007.

Conversations aim for success

Foreign language learning leaves the classroom

In an attempt to encourage members of the community to brush up on their foreign language skills, the Modern Languages Department Nov. 2 began hosting informal conversations in French, German, Spanish and Russian in the Houston Harte University Center, Rooms 110-111, the dining area behind the Rams and Belles Espresso station.

Holiday Mishap

As a tradition in my family, each Christmas morning my father would walk down the hall to make sure Santa wasn't still putting our presents out. One year, my mom, siblings, and I were walking behind my dad when all of a sudden he says "What was that?" We all froze as dad crept further down the hall into the living room.

Nutcracker 2009 Welcome the holidays with the San Angelo Civic Ballet Dec.4, 5, or 6. Every year the San Angelo Civic Ballet presents the community with the perfect holiday gift, Nutcracker. Under the direction of Meghann Bridgeman, the SACB has continued to grow and develop young students into amazing young dancers.
