ROTC honors veterans

ASU's Air Force ROTC detachment 847 held a flag retreat and candlelight vigil Friday honoring the nation's military veterans and those currently fighting overseas. The flag retreat began at 5 p.m. and was attended by local veterans and family members of men and women currently serving in the military.

When the Kappa Pi officers started planning their fall art show, changing the medium and redefining the rules of art in San Angelo made its way to the top of their priority list. The result, San Angelo's first installation art show, opened Oct. 16, at the Coop Gallery after months of preparation by the ASU members of KP International Honorary Art Fraternity.

Lost votes returned

College Republicans President Jeff Harris found 16 of the more than 30 mishandled voter registration cards during the group's meeting Nov. 6. Harris said he returned the cards to Tom Green County Elections Administrator Vona McKerley Tuesday and they "fixed" the problems that had occurred.

ASUFit helps to suffocate smoking addiction

The call to quit smoking and become aware of the addictions, dangers and cancer is nothing new, but it is an issue ASUFit is focusing on during the month of November. Like many, senior Travis Morganstean started smoking due to stress. "I think if I wanted to stop smoking, I could- but I don't want to," Morgansteen said.

Senate approves three organizations

The Student Government Senate approved three new student organizations Monday: Karst Sports at Angelo State, the Mathematics Association of America, and WORDS: Wordsmiths, Orators, Rhetoricians, Document Designers and Scholars. Sophomore Dustin Gashette was present at the meeting to represent Karst Sports, a caving and climbing club.

SI office garners excellence award

The Office of Supplemental Instruction has been selected as one of 19 finalists for the 2008 Texas Higher Education Star Award. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has been presenting the Star Award to institutes of higher education, organizations, groups and individuals for their accomplishments in the field of higher education and specifically their contributions toward the goals outlined in the "Closing the Gaps by 2015" project.

Chamber Music series brings sounds of the holidays

Nursing students excel in state exam

Nursing students at ASU have surpassed the state average in scores for the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses by almost two percent. The average state pass-rate was 90.68 percent while ASU students averaged 92.65 percent, a 12 percent increase from the university's scores the past two years, according to the examination summary.
